Orbis

High Resolution Digital Output CMOS TDI Image Sensor

Orbis are very high resolution CMOS time delay integration (TDI) image sensors with CCD on CMOS architecture designed for space satellite Earth observation (EO), planetary exploration, airborne and defense applications, providing extraordinary images.

With variants available from 12000 up to 16000 pixels and 2 or 4 panchromatic bands and 3000 up to 8000 pixels and 4 or 6 multispectral bands and different pixel sizes as well low noise and large signal options, it is possible to provide a solution for virtually any remote sensing or Earth observation application, whilst also providing a route to the highest resolution and lowest ground sampling distance (GSD) currently possible.

With the high on-chip integration the devices are easy to integrate into the imager system. There are image sensor variant options for radiation tolerant and radiation hard.

Key features include very high resolution, high speed, very high ground sampling distance (GSD) capability, low power consumption, with radiation tolerant variants being very low power, anti-blooming and are bi-directional.

Significantly easier integration - Fully digital outputs means no focal plane ADCs are required (lower power dissipation) and a low voltage process also gives low power dissipation.

Focal plane simplification - Small pixels and high data rates allow a wide swathe from a single sensor. A single sensor gives up to 8 multispectral and pan bands depending on configuration.

Performance improvements - High quantum efficiency and charge transfer gives a high signal to noise ratio (SNR). The SNR can be further improved with off chip summation. Half pixel shift allows sub-pixel resolution, giving higher resolution for the same pixel size.

Orbis CMOS TDI image sensors are backthinned - backside illuminated with a front side illumination option also possible.
